Head of Statutory Safety Compliance
Salary: £68,000 plus excellent benefits

We're pleased to working on an exclusive basis with Oxford Brookes University, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Head of Statutory Safety Compliance. The role will lead a number of new initiatives and projects across the estates and campus services function. The University has a diverse and complex estate including residential, scientific, engineering and laboratory environments to name a few.

Health and Safety is a top priority for the University and the successful candidate will join a well-established team of technical professionals operating across various specialisms. The role will directly manage safety and compliance staff and activities across all faculties.

The role will be offered on a 1-year fixed term contract, with every possibility of this extending or becoming a permanent position. The role would suit an experienced health and safety professional with previous leadership and project management experience.

Responsibilities for the Head of Statutory Safety Compliance will include:

  • Leading the development and delivery of a best practice safety compliance strategy, identifying opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of the team and operations
  • Ensure a consistent process is in place for the management and testing of assets across the University to ensure regulatory compliance and reduction in risk across the estate
  • Develop and establish key relationships across the University, with the Directors of Estates and Campus Services, HR, Faculty Heads of Ops, the Head of Risk and other key stakeholders
  • Provide timely reporting of all safety and compliance activity to the Vice Chancellors Group and other senior level committees as required
  • Oversight of all approved institutional budgets for safety and compliance across the portfolio

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a similar safety or compliance position from a related industry sector
  • NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent health and safety qualification
  • Chartered membership of a relevant industry body, or working towards (i.e IOSH)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience influencing and engaging with a wide range of senior stakeholders
  • A proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously
